I have reported this glitch a couple of times before but have not had much success in communicating the issue. I have worded this differently this time. I can also be reached on my cell (Canada 905 978 2827) for a better discussion.
When you export the price data you get a mixture of date and general cell formats. This is a big problem when trying to graph or run calculations on data in excel.
Here is an example (below) of exporting price data for the ticker TREX.
Eg. TREX export
7-Nov-12 3.7625
7-Dec-12 3.7125
07-13-2012 3.77875
07-16-2012 3.8925
07-17-2012 3.88625
On the left is the date and on the right is the price. On the 3rd row you can see the date change from
7-Dec-12
to
07-13-2012
This happens over and over again; the csv export oscillates between date format and csv format about every 10 rows.
The first date (7-Dec-12) is in a date format which is OK to use in excel.
The second date (07-13-2012) is in general format which means you can’t graph this in excel. It will graph but not be useable. And of course, if you want to run calculations between more than one asset you will be out of luck.
Try it yourself. Export some price data, graph it and then try and change the date axis to only show the last 6 months.
