Hi Carl,
Thanks for flagging this. We confirmed with our data team that the LTM value in Capital IQ is not calculated by simply adding the four reported quarterly values.
S&P Capital IQ calculates LTM financials using the following methodology:
LTM = Most recently completed fiscal year + Current YTD – Prior-year comparable YTD
For the Skillsoft example shown:
3 months ended Apr. 30, 2026: $94.50M
Fiscal year ended Jan. 31, 2026: $512.67M
3 months ended Apr. 30, 2025: $99.15M
Therefore:
$94.50M + $512.67M – $99.15M = $508.02M
This is why the LTM value of $508.02M does not necessarily equal the sum of the four quarterly values displayed in CIQ.
The reason for using this approach is that quarterly/interim financials can be unaudited and may be restated in subsequent filings. CIQ's LTM methodology is designed to incorporate the most recently available financial information rather than simply summing four quarters.
We hope this clarifies the discrepancy.
