Tracking Performance on Koyfin

Verdant Ostrich
Hello,
I really like Koyfi's portfolio for tracking our purchases, but how can we track our performance? I noticed that there's no option to "sell" stocks and see profits over the long term. However, I might be mistaken and may have missed the option to do so.

Hey Anthony, MYP and CP are current holdings portfolios at this time, they don't have the concept of historic transactions (buys, sells, cash flows) yet. We plan to build this in the future, and with that comes performance.
At this time, Model Portfolios have historic performance and allocations, but they are constructed using weights, not quantities and shares.

Conor MacNeil Okay thanks for your quick reply. I'm impatient to see this feature being implemented.
And yes I understand that weights for Model Portfolio is not suitable for everybody.
Wishing you a nice day,
Anthony

i don't seem to be able to chart the historical performance of "my portfolio". Am i missing something?

Hey AG, we don't support historical performance in My Portfolio, because we don't support historical transactions.

Conor MacNeil Hi Conor - i can input historical trades, and the P&L is being calculated on those. I am not sure if I am missing something but you should have all the data required?
Conor MacNeil
Ivory Hedgehog: Hey. The structure right now supports current positions (lots), not technically trades or transactions. You will note there is no way to add a sell or a previously held position.
The P/L is at the lot level, yes.
If we calculated performance based on your current holdings, it would (a) ignore all historic data excluding the positions you own today and (b) not be anywhere close to what the brokerage performance displays for that account.
Based on feedback, most users want historic performance based on historic transactions.

My Portfolio - Performance vs Benchmark

Technical Barracuda
It would be great to add a benchmark for the entire portfolio (example: SP500), so we could track the portfolio Performance vs Benchmark.

Hey Hector, we plan to introduce performance over time. First, we plan to introduce simulated performance base don current shareholdings, and later we eventually plan to introduce performance based on historic transactions.

Graph/ Visual Performance of Portfolio needed!

Vanilla Koi
I'd like to see a graph with my performance with different timeframes and I'd like to compare the performance visually to any other stock/index, just like on Google Finance.

I love this idea!
In my view, the performance should take into consideration realised gains too. And positions that were closed should still impact the portfolio performance.
A practical example: January 1st I bought 1 stock of company A and 1 stock of company B for 10USD each. On May 1st I sell stock B for 20USD.
At December 31st I still hold A at a current value of 5USD. My current portfolio performance would be -50%, but my yearly performance would be 50%.
I hope it makes sense!

Follow up question for you Cheng, and any others who might be watching this ticket.
Would you want performance to be a reflection of historic transactions bought, sold, and currently owned, or a simulated historic performance based on current holdings only?

Conor MacNeil My vote would be for a real reflection of historic transactions. A simulated historic performance might be good as a separate backtesting tool on Koyfin (where you could e.g., insert holdings from My Porfolio or a watchlist)
Conor MacNeil
Whispering Viper Thank you Vikram, this helps!

Conor MacNeil Hi Conor, my vote will also be for the actual, real historical performance of the portfolio which includes all transactions. Thanks, much appreciated!

Conor MacNeil My personal preference is the actual reflection of my historic transactions. Thanks!!
